Direct Entry for Pharmacy – List of Schools & Requirements

Pharmacy is one of the most sought after courses in Nigeria, which makes it very competitive thus difficult to gain admission to study pharmacy.
This article is going to guide those that intend to study pharmacy in any of the Nigeria University offering the course through direct entry. There are of course two ways through which you can get admission to study pharmacy in Nigeria Universities: through UTME and direct entry.

REQUIREMENT TO STUDY PHARMACY
The O level requirement to study pharmacy is five SSCE credit passes in English language, Mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology.
The direct entry requirements for various universities include:

• The university of Benin and University of Uyo do not accept ‘A’ level mathematics
• OAU do accept BSc, minimum of second class lower in any of the science related courses.
• The university of Benin also accepts ‘A’ level botany in place of biology.
• The university of Lagos also accepts direct entry for pharmacy under the following conditions

1. Good passes in three subjects( physics, chemistry, and biology) in JUPEB/ A- Level
2. Also very good pass in three ‘A’ level subjects: physics, chemistry, and biology.
3. The university of Lagos does not accept BSc degrees.

• The university of Benin does accept BSc degrees in courses relating to pharmacy.
• The university of Nigeria Nsukka accepts direct entry with the following conditions:

1. They accept three ‘A’ level pass in Physics, chemistry, biology/botany/zoology including UTME requirement not exceeding two sittings.
2. They also accept BSc degree in any of the Biological sciences, Health Sciences and technology and Medical courses with a minimum of second class lower including UTME requirements.
3. UNN also accepts HND in biological sciences, health science, and technology or medical sciences with a minimum of upper credit including UTME requirements.

• Niger Delta University accepts the following condition:

1. NDU will accept a BSc degree from any recognized university in chemistry or any biological sciences.
2. NDU also accept a pass in physics, chemistry, mathematics or statistics, biology/zoology/botany in ‘A’ level or you can provide a higher school certificate not more than two sittings.

• OOU also accepts Botany as a replacement to zoology.
